New Mexico State University

Office of the CIO and Vice President of Planning and Information Technology

Information and Communication Technologies

The Office of Planning and Information Technology consists of two components: a planning department to support university-wide strategic planning and IT planning and 2) the department of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) that supports NMSU’s central IT resources and services.

The Office of Planning and IT develops strategies and objectives along with NMSU’s faculty, student and executive IT committees and with NMSU’s Association of Computing and Networking Support. The current strategies are both internal to NMSU and statewide. The initiatives are 1) increasing bandwidth to as many areas in the state as possible, 2) implementing the IDEAL-NM and NMCAC projects, 3) creating new funding streams through the New Mexico higher education funding formula, 4) continuing to improve information access for planning and management, 5) improving classroom technology and 6) supporting relevant and cost effective applications for academics and administration. These projects allow us to support the statewide goal of access and success in higher education for our citizens.

Our planning documents present the goals for information technology (IT) in the context of NMSU’s “Living the Vision” and “One University” plans. The driving force for the use of information technology at NMSU is to support the mission, vision, goals and objectives of the university. As part of the technology planning and execution, NMSU strives not only to complete IT projects that are relevant to NMSU’s mission, but also to benchmark our capabilities to similar land grant institutions.
